Monitoring the Rangelands - Photo Pairs - Finke (FIN)
Location 1
1966
1995
Mulga [Acacia aneura] has regenerated on this area after 1965 but many of the trees were killed in a bushfire before 1993. Neverthless, the soils of the area are now quite stable and support a scattered ground cover.
Location 2
1965
1993
Little change in 28 years with the exception of a better developed ground cover.
Location 3
1966
1993
Trees grow slowly in many rangeland areas. This area has seen a large increase in shrubs between 1965 and 1993 but ground cover levels are similar.
Location 4
1965
1993
Many arid rangeland areas have a naturally low level of vegetation cover and this changes little over long periods of time [28 years].
Location 5
1965
1993
Unstable sand dunes in 1965 but the area is now stable and protected by well developed native shrub and ground cover layers.
